Meet a Volunteer
Dr. Kamilia Tagi Smith
Kamilia grew up wanting to be a belly dancer. With a Muslim father and a Christian mother, she was exposed to two cultures and religions early in her life. She spent Saturdays at the mosque and Sundays in the Baptist church. Her parents let their children determine the faith they would follow. At the age of five, Kamilia became a follower of Christ.
It was through her work as a resident at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas that Kamilia learned of Dallas Pregnancy Resource Center (DPRC). Laura Zambrana, the labor and delivery nurse supervisor shared about her volunteer work as a nurse at DPRC and invited Kamilia to attend the ministry’s 2007 Celebration & Fundraising Dinner. “I was amazed by the number of supporters the ministry had at the dinner,” said Kamilia. That two hour event turned into a commitment. She began serving at our West Dallas Center in October 2007. Kamilia loves the interaction she has with staff and clients knowing that her multicultural background allows her to understand and minister to the diverse groups that come to DPRC.
